Every APlusHosting web hosting plan includes a full email service at your own domain. This page is the complete list of what you can do with it. There is no extra fee for any of the features listed here, and every plan supports unlimited forwarders, aliases, and catch-all addresses.
For a plain-English explanation of when to use each feature, see our blog post Email aliases, forwarders, and catch-all addresses explained.
Mailboxes
A mailbox is a real inbox you can log in to and read. It stores your messages on our servers.
- Create as many mailboxes as your plan allows
- Pick a custom username for each mailbox (
firstname@,firstname.lastname@,accounts@, etc.) - Set a password with built-in strength hints in the Client Portal
- Change the password at any time
- Disable a mailbox without deleting it (stops new mail from being accepted but keeps the inbox)
- Delete a mailbox entirely from the danger zone in the Client Portal
- Access mail via webmail straight from the Client Portal
- Use IMAP, POP3, or SMTP to read and send from any email app on your phone or laptop
- Works with the Mail app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows
- Works with desktop email clients like Thunderbird and any modern alternative
Email aliases (extra names for the same mailbox)
An alias is a second address that points at an existing mailbox. Mail sent to either address lands in the same inbox.
- Add unlimited aliases per mailbox
- Useful for a formal version of your name plus a casual one (e.g.
j.smith@andjohn@both going to the same place) - Useful for role-based addresses while one person fills the role (e.g.
accounts@going to the owner’s mailbox) - Useful for name changes — add the new name as an alias to keep the old inbox intact
- Lowercase enforcement on aliases prevents common typos
- Add and remove aliases at any time, no email app reconfiguration needed
Email forwarders (send to a different inbox)
A forwarder is an address that does not store mail. Anything sent to it goes straight to a different address. No mailbox is required.
- Create unlimited forwarders per domain
- Forward to any email address, including external ones (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, your work email)
- Useful for
info@,hello@,support@, and other public-looking addresses that you want sent to your personal inbox - Add and remove forwarders at any time
- No storage quota involved
Multi-recipient forwarders (send to multiple inboxes at once)
A forwarder can be configured with more than one destination address. Anything sent to it is delivered to every address on the list.
- Forward to as many destinations as you need
- Useful for
orders@,team@, or any shared address where multiple people should receive every message - Works across mixed destinations (some internal, some external)
- Different vendors call this feature different names: “group alias” (Google Workspace), “distribution list” (Microsoft 365), “mail group” (Plesk). On our platform, it is just a forwarder with multiple destinations.
- Not the same as a mailing list. There are no subject prefixes, no opt-in, no reply-all behavior. It is a simple delivery rule.
Catch-all addresses
A catch-all is a single rule that delivers all mail sent to any unrecognized address at your domain to one designated mailbox.
- Configure one catch-all per domain
- Useful for catching mistyped customer email addresses
- Useful for making up disposable addresses on the fly when signing up for services
- Useful as a safety net so you never miss a real customer who guessed your address wrong
- Pair with spam filtering to keep the catch-all inbox clean
- Turn off at any time
Autoresponders
An autoresponder sends an automatic reply to anyone who emails a specific address.
- Set a custom subject line for the reply
- Set the reply body with any text you want (vacation message, “out of office”, “we received your inquiry”, etc.)
- Set an optional expiration date so the autoresponder turns off automatically
- Enable, edit, or remove at any time from the Client Portal
- Useful for vacation responses, sales-team auto-acknowledgments, and seasonal “we are closed” messages
Domain-level features
In addition to per-mailbox features, you can configure two settings at the domain level:
- Catch-all destination (described above)
- Default forwarder for mail that does not match any specific rule, as a more general alternative to a catch-all
Both are configurable from the Email Domains page in the Client Portal.
Spam filtering
- Most spam is filtered out before it ever reaches you
- No rules to configure on your end
- No extra fee
- Works the same on every plan
Webmail
- Webmail access from the Client Portal
- No setup required
- Works in any modern browser
- Login links live alongside your account settings
Setup walkthrough
To set up email at your own domain:
- Log in to our Client Portal
